What are habilitative services vs rehabilitative services?
This would fall into both MindRamp cognitive wellness coaching and brain integration therapy
Habilitative services help a person keep, learn, or improve skills and functioning for daily living. In contrast – Brain Builder Pros
Rehabilitative services help a person keep, get back, or improve skills and functioning for daily living that have been lost or impaired because of being sick, hurt, or disabled. – Redline Exercise Rx
In addition, Ralph and I also have taught classes and we have been guest presenters/speakers at different wellness conferences or seminars.
We also have extensive experience advocating for our clients with their physicians and care givers. In addition, we are experts in communication with our more senior adult clients, assisting them in communicating with their medical facilities and physicians. And we help the physicians and medical staff to understand the client's needs as well. We have a signature sheet included in our client intake forms that, when necessary, gives us permission to help the client fill out their paperwork
The Healing Team at Brain Builders Pros has a combined 55 years aiding people along their wellness journey. Our team approach offers our clients the surety of in depth evaluation and care oversight that has helped many to bridge the gap from injury to wellness.
Physical Therapist
Ralph is a graduate of University of New Mexico Physical Therapy School. His broad base of patient experience includes wound care, acute and post-acute, rehabilitation, chronic pain, orthopedics and home health care.
His employment journey has also given him solid experience in neurological injuries, Parkinson’s, stroke, ALS, MS, spinal cord, and traumatic brain injury care. His past certifications include Neuromuscular Developmental Treatment (NDT). Over 50% of his home health care patients have been diagnosed with diabetes: Type 1 and 2. He also has a history of care for patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
There were many patients who asked Ralph if he could provide follow up care for them after discharge from physical therapy. They requested that he continue to oversee and guide their activity programs to progress them on their wellness journey. He and Pam began bridging this gap in 2003 when they began Redline Exercise Rx.
Cognitive Wellness Coaching/Brain Integration Therapy
With Cognitive Wellness Coaching there are 8 cognitive wheels that synergistically make up complete brain health. These CogWheels must each be working at full capacity in order for us to enjoy total wellness. When/If any of these CogWheels are not fully functioning, it directly affects the remainder of the wheels thereby creating synergistic damage. If not assessed and then addressed as soon as possible with simple modalities, the brain will certainly decline. Brain Builder Pros provides the necessary tools for assessing and addressing any “broken cogs” in order to return you to full, healthy function.
Brain Integration Therapy is a simple neurofeedback tool to assess and implement brain healing. BIT differs from Cognitive Wellness in that it specifically targets brains that have suffered trauma or injury. Our program has proven efficacy and success.
When a client is assessed, their customized program will return them to cognitive wellness and our team will continue to help the client maintain brain wellness and healthy cognitive function.
Pam is a Certified Learning Specialist (CLS) with Dianne Craft Right Brain Learning System and Child Diagnostics. After completing this intense, two-year training Pam received her certificate in in July 2021. Though this program was initially offered as a course of study to address learning challenges in children, she has successfully applied the assessment, treatments, and modalities to all of her clients, ranging in age from the primary grades to older adults. The program is predictable and 100% successful when applied as prescribed.
She also received her certification in Cognitive Wellness Coaching from MINDRAMP. This two-year training course was also completed in July 2021. To further investigate how you can improve your brain health, check out Pam’s blogs about the 8 Cognitive Wheels (CogWheels) of Total Brain Health.

Habilitative therapy is a type of treatment or service that seeks to help patients develop skills or functions that they were incapable of developing on their own. This type of treatment tends to be common for pediatric patients who haven’t developed certain skills at an age-appropriate level. Let’s take a look at a scenario where this might be the case.
Let’s imagine that a 5-year-old boy’s mother received an email from the teacher about their child’s behaviour in the classroom. Apparently he is unable to remain seated through lessons, he appears to have boundless energy, and is generally disruptive. As such, the mother has chosen to take their child to see a behavioural psychologist where he is subsequently diagnosed with ADHD, and a treatment plan is created.
The treatment received by the 5-year-old boy can be considered habilitative because the child has been unable to develop the necessary skills to remain focused in the classroom, despite many of his peers being perfectly capable.
Rehabilitative therapy is a type of treatment or service that seeks to help a patient regain a skill or function that was lost as a result of injury or sickness. Allow me to provide you with an imaginary scenario where a patient would require rehabilitative therapy.
Let’s pretend that there is 39-year-old woman who was in an auto accident. As a result, she fractured her ankle and is unable to walk without a limp. Unhappy with her new gait, this woman has opted to seek the help of a physical therapy professional to overcome her issue.
This type of treatment is considered to be rehabilitative because the patient did not walk with a limp prior to the accident. Their injury can be directly attributed to the accident, and they are seeking to restore themselves to their former functionality.
